Shahida Mausi

President/CEO

Shahida Mausi’s career has spanned leadership roles in the For Profit, Non-Profit and Public sectors. In each instance managing multimillion-dollar budgets, she has successfully built bridges between internal and external sectors. As the President & CEO of TRP, Shahida Mausi has created national award-winning events for such clients as The City of Detroit, MGM Grand Detroit, and UAW. A pinnacle experience occurred when Mausi produced the event held to commemorate the historic visit of Nelson and Winnie Mandela to Detroit.

Under her direction, Tiger Stadium was completely outfitted for the first time as a major concert venue, with pooled electronic media, new ticket scaling and computerization. Mausi orchestrated the major technical and artistic production elements necessary for such an auspicious occasion in less than four weeks. More than 50,000 people attended the event and hundreds of thousands more viewed televised coverage. The impact of the event was palpable for several days thereafter. It helped gross more than $1 million for Mandela anti-apartheid efforts, demonstrating the spirit of Detroit.

The Right Productions has also provided talent and production services for special events surrounding Super Bowl XL, the Detroit Music Festival and Movement – Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival.  TRP is a founding partner in the Black Promoters Collective (BPC) producing events across the country. BPC is a coalition of six of the nation’s top independent concert promotion and event production companies. As a founding member, Shahida has been recognized as one of Billboard’s 2023 R&B/Hip-Hop Power players, as well as being recognized as Pollstar x Venues Now Women of Live 2023.  Mausi also serves as a board member for the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA).

Formed three months into the pandemic, the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) was formed to fight for survival alongside independent venues and promoters across the country. The goal was to ensure that vibrant local music scenes return strong after the pandemic passed. As COVID-19 swept Michigan, independent music venues and promoters were the first to shut down and expected to be the last to reopen. During one of entertainment’s toughest times, under Shahida’s leadership, The Right Productions joined NIVA’s lobbying and grassroots efforts to pass the bipartisan Save Our Stages Act, now officially named the Shuttered Venues Operators Grant Program

Mausi is a past board member of the Michigan Council of the Arts and Cultural Affairs Board, the Kellogg Foundation Youth Initiatives Committee, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Board of Directors, and has chaired National Endowment for the Arts panels. She previously served as vice-chairperson of the Museum of African American History.

Prior to developing The Right Productions, Shahida Mausi served for ten years as Director of the City of Detroit’s Council of the Arts, a grant making, producing and an advocacy agency.

Hosting and producing “Detroit Creates” on WJZZ – FM Detroit, Mausi gained years of on-air radio experience. Seeking to blend cultural and social redevelopment, she served for three-years as the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Detroit YWCA, overseeing the programming, and facilities of five metropolitan Detroit locations. She also produced programming for the Detroit Public Library system using a gamut of events from lectures, theatre, dance film, festivals, and exhibitions to draw record crowds and publicity into the institution.
